Well-seasoned Texas singer-songwriter will teaching his version of writing songs. For songwriters at all levels, including those who have never tried. Learn the basic elements of a song, crafting tools, and learn how to take feelings, experiences, and story ideas and turn them into songs. There will be live performances of original songs and insight into how they were written. There will also be time for Q&A.
This workshop is about expanding musical possibilities on the guitar. Have you ever felt limited by having to play in standard tuning all the time (ie: hard chord fingerings, etc)? You hear other people using altered tunings and multiple capos and it sounds so good… well this workshop will introduce you to the magical world of multiple three string capos with altered tunings! The focus of the workshop is to begin to open up your musical thought processes to experimentation.
Join David as he walks you through the process he used to write more than a dozen tiny books. We will be sharing videos of some of the books he has written and put into song on our social media pages. You can also refer to the YouTube video “David Massengill teaches the art of bookmaking in Topeka” by CJOnline for reference. All experience levels welcome (kids+adults).
Take your harp playing to the next level. He’ll talk about how to do single notes, octaves, and chords. If you’re ready, he’ll show you a simple 12 bar blues. Bring your own harmonica (a 10 hole diatonic harp in the key of C or whatever key you own). Even if you don’t play, he has stories to tell of meeting and learning from some of the great classic giants of harmonica (pioneers like Sonny Terry, Hammie Nixon, and Big Walter Horton). For Dave, harmonica was the door into the world of music that
Mark has played professionally since he was 14 years old. He’s a well-seasoned singer/songwriter who has played lead for Steve Earle and the Dukes for years! He’s toured with many notable artists including his wife Stacey Earle, Joan Biaz, Steve Forbert, and many more. He puts on shows with pure class and every note is carefully thought through and dead on professional. This is your chance to learn first hand from a highly talented and thoughtful performer.
Johann will be teaching beginner dance classes. His specialty is the two-step dance class. He has taught numerous classes in Texas and will be preparing attendees so that they can dance during our Saturday night ticketed show.
